I've been a contributor since the beginning of Wokai and have personally witnessed the benefits these microloans have done for the poor who work hard to lift themselves out of poverty. I'm generally do not donate money because I believe everyone should work? hard to make his/her living. But, I have found that the way Wokai and microfinance work (when it's properly done and regulated) is that they provide people who already work hard to make a living a little boost. I love it.

I like how, in theory, I could be helping several? people with the small amount I donate, assuming everything goes smooth. @tung2sai Its a complex issue. Like any idea it can be misused. Take for example India's problem with microfinance. Generally a good microfinance NGO should loan 2 people for the purpose of running a business, & charge only enough interest to allow it to run. I donate to wokai. As of today 12 oct 2010 Wokai has 6623 contributors, 454 loans from 47 countries & $353,680 invested. Microfinance works because a bank would prefer to lend $1 million to one person than $1 to a million people because of more administrative costs to the bank. Microfinance? doesn't care since its a charity, hence the small amounts still get lent.

@applejelly2 Keynesian is part of Capitalism, it is a Capitalist economic system, it was created in a capitalist economic system, its used in capitalist countries and capitalist systems. Keynesian does not support? or advocate or use a central planning system. @applejelly2 I'm not in support of the bailouts and neither was Keynes or Keynesian economics. The people who cause the problems should not get bailed out. People who fail with their business but it wasn't hurting the global economy, those companies just normal jobs going out of business, never get bailed? out and that is how it always was. But companies losing money due to another person or sections bad motives and choices should not just be left to die when it is not their fault.

Same with infrastructure, building of roads and bridges allows for goods and services as well as business men and workers to get from place to place. The government does give something, it is a myth that they don't create wealth or jobs or help contribute to the economy because they do. Saudis don't have as much oil that they say they do, but they are intentionally trickling the spigot. Truth of the matter is that a barrel is 47 gallons, and the Saudis get about 5 cents a gallon, and the Oil? Companies make 10 cents a gallon of their end of the deal with government subsidies covering the loss of about $7 a gallon in transporting it and selling it to a refiner.
